What this service provides

Consumer Clarity helps consumers identify whether food products may contain ingredients of concern based on:

  • Publicly available ingredient information from databases like Open Food Facts
  • User-submitted ingredient lists
  • AI-powered text recognition from photos of product labels
  • Rules-based and AI-powered analysis of ingredient lists against dietary concerns

Results are categorized as Safe, Caution, or Avoid for each dietary concern you have selected.

Limitations and accuracy

  • Ingredient data may be outdated, incorrect, or incomplete. Manufacturers reformulate products without notice.
  • AI analysis can make mistakes, especially when ingredient lists use vague terms like "spices" or "natural flavors."
  • Results marked "Caution" are conservative warnings — they do not necessarily mean the product is unsafe, only that we cannot definitively confirm safety.
  • Cross-contamination warnings ("may contain") reflect what the label states; we cannot verify actual manufacturing practices.
  • The product database is built from public sources and user submissions, which may contain errors.

Limitation of liability

User contributions

When you submit ingredient information or photos, you grant us permission to use, store, and display that information in our product database to help other users. Submissions should be accurate and lawful. We may remove submissions that appear incorrect, spammy, or harmful.

Third-party services

This service uses Google Gemini AI for ingredient analysis, Open Food Facts for product data, Vercel for hosting, and Upstash for storage. Their respective terms and policies apply to the data they process.

Changes

We may update these terms over time. Material changes will be communicated via the app. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the service operator is based. Disputes will be resolved in the appropriate courts of that jurisdiction.
